In December, for the first time, the monthly award for 'A Brilliant Civil Service' will be framed around a specific initiative - activity by teams or individuals towards the Defra-backed Year of Green Action.
Tamara Finkelstein was appointed Permanent Secretary at Defra on 19 June 2019. She was formerly Director General for EU Exit Delivery at Defra from April 2018 to March 2019. Before that, she was leading the Building Safety Programme in the wake of the Grenfell Tower fire at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
Much of her career has been at the HM Treasury where she started as an economist and worked on tax, macroeconomic policy and debt management.

The Civil Service
The Civil Service does the practical and administrative work of government. More than half of all civil servants provide services direct to the public.
We welcome a range of stories from civil servants to this blog, if you would like to share something then email for details on how to get involved.
