At the heart of the Department for Work and Pension's (DWP) work on leading and managing change is the 'DWP Story' which sets out the challenges the organisation must meet in order to deliver the department’s operational, reform and efficiency objectives. The story sets out the department’s vision and ambition for the future and outlines what success looks like.
Story events are being run across the country, led by a senior leader of the organisation. The events focus on a number of key priorities for DWP and facilitate staff engagement with ‘One DWP’; a department which works well together, is confident, engages effectively with partners, and performs outstandingly well, showcasing public service at its best.
This emphasis on a single highly efficient department is now being borne out in day to day business, for example, the Policy and Operations team have joined forces as One DWP to reduce special payment expenditure by £9 million.
It is clear that by engaging with the story both the organisation and individual teams are benefitting. The DWP is now a department where everyone takes responsibility for their own role in delivery and this improvement is being realised and recognised.
The result of the story events has been extremely encouraging with the last round of 112 events taking place in 36 locations with 4,003 attendees who have given very positive feedback.
DWP continues to commit a strong focus on uniting its staff through change and are seeing a more engaged workforce as a result.

One great change would be to get the spelling in the heading correct. Unless, of course, the author actually does mean "Manging" (whatever that means, although it doesn't sound good!) as opposed to Managing.

Good spot Rob - we've corrected that one.
