A day in the life of Fast Track Apprentice Katie LambertCan you describe your role?

The Diary Secretary is responsible for the day to day management of the Chief Whip’s diary, ensuring it is effectively managed and his day runs smoothly. I arrange all the Chief Whip’s meetings and engagements including programmes for visits whilst balancing conflicting priorities against available time. I am solely responsible the Chief Whip’s red box and I act as the Cabinet Documents Officer for the office, ensuring Cabinet Office procedures are followed.

How did you decide which apprenticeship to select?

It was a process of elimination, although I could have passed in ICT or Finance, I felt my strengths lay within Business Admin.

What do you plan to do after your apprenticeship is finished?

I hope to have a position with the UK Representation to Brussels, I am aiming to specialise in the European Commission.

What has been a highlight of working here?

Getting to work with a high profile minister every day as well, as being recognised by other MPs and ministers.

Describe yourself in 3 words

Confident, opportunistic and knowledgeable.

What are your top tips for anyone thinking of applying for the civil service apprenticeship programme?

Be confident in why you are applying. Whether you are interested in a specific department or subject area, or maybe you just want to work with the public you should make this known in your application.
